Obituary for GLADYS MARY COOKE DIXON

Memorial services will be 4:00 P.M. Thursday, January 7 at Brooks Chapel with Dr. David L. Lowrie, Jr., pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Mrs. Dixon was born May 21, 1904 in Roosevelt, Oklahoma to E. M. Cooke and Addie Alice Bentz. She married Leonard Dixon in 1929. Mrs. Dixon was an educator, who taught high school English. She was a pioneer in the field of special education, helping many school districts in Texas and Colorado set up special education programs. She was a member of Texas Retired Teachers Association, American Association of University Women, and Palo Duro Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Canyon. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sisters, two brothers, and two children, Joe Dixon and Linda Williamson. Survivors include four daughters, Shirley Stockstill, of Canyon, Sherma Miller and husband, Don, of Grand Junction, CO, Sheila Burkett and husband, Jim, of Canyon, and Jody Perkins, of Angel Fire, New Mexico; fifteen grandchildren; twenty nine great grandchildren; and fifteen great great grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, PO Box 1890, Amarillo, TX 79174. The family will gather from 7:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, January 6 at 14 Southridge, Canyon, Texas.
