Obituary for GILFORD FLOWERS

Celebration of life services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, February 10, 2012 at First Baptist Church of Happy with Rev. Paul McQuerry, pastor, officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 9, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Happy"s Memorial Chapel. Viewing will be at Happy"s Memorial Chapel in Happy, Texas. Burial will be in Happy Cemetery, Happy, Texas. Gilford Flowers was born on September 1, 1925 to Eula and Cephus Flowers six miles east of Tulia, TX at the family homeplace. He attended Elkins Country School and graduated from Tulia High School. Gilford was a farmer in the Vigo Park area, Tulia and Happy. He was a member of Happy Senior Citizens, Swisher County Historical Commission, Amarillo Antique Trucks Club, and First Baptist Church of Happy. He was a former member of Happy Volunteer Fire Department, a voting delegate for Swisher County Farmers Union, and a pilot and member in the 1940"s and 1950"s of Flying Farmers. Gilford was preceded in death by his sister, Nedra, and his parents. Survivors include three sons and their families, Roland and Sherma Flowers, of Happy, Doug and Marketta Flowers, of Amarillo, and Roger and Lorri Flowers, of Leander; grandchildren, Kirk and Penny Flowers, of Canyon, Gabe and Christina Flowers, of Happy, Roy Flowers and girlfriend, Jennifer Burns, of North Richland Hills, Shane and Tiffee Flowers, of Amarillo, Courtney and Lee Oles, of Lubbock, Kathryn and Eric Coppinger, of Amarillo, Tanner and Lisa Flowers, of San Antonio, and JaNae and Barry Burns, of Bertram; great grandchildren, Landon and Kannon Flowers, of Happy, Madison and Maeleigh Flowers, of Amarillo, Owen and Elody Oles, of Lubbock, Charlie Coppinger, of Amarillo, MacKenzie Flowers, of San Antonio, and Chase Burns, of Bertram; a sibling, Jarus Flowers and wife JoAnn, of Plainview; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Happy"s Memorial Chapel.
