Obituary for GEORGIA FAYE HOLT BLACKWELL

Memorial services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church of Canyon with Rev. Andy Blair, pastor, officiating. Georgia Faye Holt Blackwell was born on December 18, 1926 in Canyon to A.B. and Ida Faye Holt. She attended schools in Canyon and graduated from Canyon High School in 1943, going on to West Texas State College where she received Bachelor’s degree in English. While in college, she was president of the Baptist Student Union. Georgia married George Lester Blackwell from Moriarty, New Mexico in 1947, and he preceded her in death in 2010. She worked in the Business office and Financial Aid office at WT for many years. The Blackwells owned and operated Blackwell and Associates Insurance Agency until their retirement. She was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church of Canyon and was very active there all her life, teaching Sunday school until 2010. She loved to read and play Bridge. She was a Zeta Tau Alpha Alum and a member of AAUW. The Blackwells traveled all over the world, making many new friends wherever they went. They especially enjoyed visiting the "Thai Twins" in Bangkok and other places their husbands were posted by the government of Thailand. Special thanks to Marilyn Louden and Tana Kohout and all the staff of BSA Hospice of the Southwest; Meals on Wheels; Shawna Palmer; Marla Gales and Kathy Gibbs of Nurse Corp; and many friends and family members. Survivors include her beloved dog, Mickey; her "adopted" children, Rev. Ruby Moultry, of First United Methodist Church of Pampa, and the twins, June (Supasiri Amatayakul) and Nong (Sirisupa Kulthanan) of Thailand; two sisters, Ann Root and husband, Norris, of Canyon and Virginia Cotton, of Canyon; niece, Stephanie Dawdy Hager and husband, Ronnie, of Canyon, nephew, Tom Dawdy of Amarillo; niece, Vanessa Markham of Plano; niece Celia Winchell and husband, Craig, of Dallas; nephew, Floyd Blackwell and wife, Bettye, of Ruidoso, NM; great nephew, Scott Markham of Canyon; and great niece and great nephew, Britain and Barrett Winchell of Dallas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials be to BSA Hospice of the Southwest or your favorite charity.
