Obituary for GEORGE HAND

Services will be at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at Brooks Chapel with Rev. Gene Jones, associate pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be private. George Hand was born on August 17, 1921 in Melissa, Texas to Herman and Lena Mae Bewley Hand. He married Marian Ross on May 5, 1945 in Los Angeles, CA. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1944 to 1946. A devoted husband of 65 years, George returned to the Amarillo area after discharging from the Navy. He was a farmer / rancher until attention was turned to training quality American Quarter Horses and Paint Horses with his son as Double H Farms. In 1978, he was the owner / trainer of the National Champion Paint Race Horse. George is fondly remembered for honesty, a good story and always saying, "I just want to see next year"s colt crop." Survivors include his wife, Marian Hand, of the home; one son, Robert Hand and wife, Janet, of Canyon; two daughters, Linda Hand Caufman, of Plano, and Janie Moore Jones, of Amarillo; his grandchildren, Jeff Hand, Misty and Will Miller, Julie and Doug Winter, Heather Moore, and Heath Moore; and his great grandchildren, Jared, Hannah and Lane Miller, George and Hattie Winter, and Kayden Jones.
