Obituary for Geneva Ann Devin Robinson
Geneva Ann (Devin) Robinson was born February 7, 1934, to James Roy and Lillie Mae (Parker) Devin in Powell, Oklahoma. She died on May 21, 2021, at her home in Stinnett, Texas. Funeral services will be held at the University Church of Christ in Canyon, Texas, on Thursday, May 27, 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be Wednesday evening, May 26, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Brooks Funeral Directors in Canyon, Texas.
Geneva lived in Powell, Oklahoma, until she was seven when her family moved to Panhandle, Texas. The family later moved to Canyon where Geneva graduated from high school in three years. She completed her teaching degree from West Texas State College (now West Texas State University) in another three years. Her dad drove her to Stinnett, helped her get her items out of the car, and drove away leaving Geneva to begin her teaching career at the age of 19. She later earned a master’s degree in English from The University of Colorado in Boulder and a master’s degree in education from West Texas A&M University. Geneva retired from the school system in 1994.
Geneva married C. George Robinson November 20, 1960. Even after marriage and the birth of four children, she remained remarkably independent. She provided Band-Aids, baths, and bedtime stories for their children. This was a significant feat consider there were only four and half years between the birth of the oldest the youngest child. Despite surgeries, inner-ear difficulties, migraines, and a heart murmur, she always had a listening ear and time for a hug.
Not only did she teach at school, but at home as well. She taught her children etiquette, how to dress appropriately, and how to appreciate the fine arts and reading. When her children needed help with homework, George helped with math and science while Geneva helped with English, spelling, and reading. She taught her children by example a love for God, a generous heart, and a caring spirit. She taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School for decades at the Stinnett Church of Christ and launched the Joy Bus Ministry with her husband.
Geneva is preceded in death by her husband C. George Robinson, her parents James Roy and Lillie Mae Devin, sisters Mary Ruth Lemons and Lorilla Ferris, and brother James Roy Devin, Jr. She is survived by her brother Glenn Devin; her four children, Rebecca Cobb and husband, Gale; Beth Robinson; Charles Robinson and wife, Monty; and Georgina Stroble and husband, J.R. She is survived by nine grandchildren: Kendra Goings and husband, Nathan; Miranda, Dalton, and Carina Stroble; Michael Ann and Devin Robinson; Lana Robinson; and Gerrit and Dawson Richardson. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren: Nina, Chloe, and Gideon Goings; Hezekiah and Dina Garcia; and Javier Casteneda. As a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Geneva leaves behind a legacy of strong Christian faith and a love for family.
Geneva’s family expresses their gratitude to the those who provided in-home care for Geneva. They made possible her wish to remain in her home, and we will be forever grateful.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to High Plains Children’s Home in Amarillo or Texas Boys Ranch in Lubbock.
