Obituary for GENE CONWELL

Gene Conwell, 75, of Canyon, died Tuesday, November 26, 2002 in Amarillo. Service will be 2:00PM Saturday, November 30, 2002 at the First Baptist Church in Canyon with Rev. David Lowrie, Pastor and Rev. Bob Miller, Pastor of South Georgia Baptist Church in Amarillo, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Gene Conwell was born January 18, 1927 to Leonal and Vera Frances Hizer-Harmon Conwell in Eldorado, Oklahoma. He was in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1947, serving one year in Germany. He married Daisy Mae Taylor August 2, 1949 in Anson, Texas. He moved to Canyon in 1965. He worked at Dobbs Corporation and Hazelwood Dairy for several years. He was employed at Backyard Adventures in the welding department for six years. He was an ordained minister, licensed deacon and a member of the First Baptist Church of Canyon. He is preceded in death by on daughter, Connie Conwell in 1970 and one sister, Mary Butler. Survivors include three sons, Billy Wayne Conwell and wife, Lori, of Amarillo, Darrell Conwell, of Canyon, and Jon Conwell, of Canyon; two daughters, Vera Mae Reid and husband, Rick, of Knox City, and Doris Armstrong and husband, Lynn, of Panama, OK; five sisters, Bessie Strawn and husband, J.W., of Post, Patricia Booher, of Ft. Worth, Linda Fish and husband, Sam, of Barksdale, Jacquetta Arbuckle and husband, Charley, of Henderson, and Diane Beasly and husband, James, of Cammeron. The family suggest memorials be to the First Baptist Ministry Center and/or a favorite charity.
