Obituary for Fred Kenneth Baker

Fred Kenneth Baker, 84, of Canyon passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2019. Services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, November 23, 2019 at the First Baptist Church of Amarillo with Rev. Gene Jones, officiating. Burial will follow at Dreamland Cemetery in Canyon. The family will receive friends on Friday, November 22 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Brooks Chapel. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors. Fred Kenneth Baker was born on December 19, 1934 in Clovis, NM at Clovis Baptist Hospital to Fred and Jennie Radcliff Baker. They had homesteaded in 1906 in Roosevelt County. Kenneth grew up in Portales, NM and graduated from Portales High School in 1954. He attended Eastern New Mexico State University and graduated in 1958. He earned a Master’s of Religious Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1961. He married Louise Reynolds in Artesia, NM on August 17, 1958. They moved to Canyon in 1967 where he worked as the Education Director at First Baptist Church. He retired from the WTAMU Bookstore in 1996. Kenneth was a member of the choir and First Singers at First Baptist Church of Amarillo. He sang for many years with the Panhandle Singing Men. He was also a member of Retired Teachers. He was survived by his wife of 61 years, Louise; his two daughters, Kenet Richerson and Kim Campbell and husband Ron, of Canyon; and two grandchildren, Kara Wyatt and husband Patrick and Ryan Richerson. The family suggests that any memorials be made to your favorite charity.
