Obituary for FRANK WOODSON MATTHEWS

Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, October 30, 2006 at Brooks Chapel with Dr. Jerry W. Black, pastor of West Side Christian Church of Duncan, Oklahoma, officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 PM on Sunday, October 29, 2006 at Brooks Chapel. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Amarillo, Texas. Frank Woodson Matthews was born on June 21, 1923 at Paducah, Texas to Mansfield and Anetha Bell Selph Matthews. He gave up a football scholarship to join the U.S. Navy on July 9, 1942 at the age of 19. He served on the USS Pruitt and was honorably discharged on December 24, 1945. He married Bettie Lou Hardee on September 14, 1946 at Ft. Worth, Texas. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in September. He worked for Crow Chevrolet parts department in Muleshoe until 1969 when they moved to Amarillo. He worked for Plains Chevrolet parts department for several years and then worked for Ray Jones Chevrolet parts department until his retirement in 1981. They moved to Duncan, Oklahoma in 1991 where they are members of West Side Christian Church. He was preceded in death by one son, Walter Talmedge Matthews. Survivors include two sons, Wayne Matthews and wife, Rudi Kaye, of Canyon and Tim Matthews and wife, Dawn, of Sevierville, TN; daughter-in-law, Laura Matthews, of Chesterfield, VA; nine grandchildren, Beth Ann, Valerie, and Jared Matthews, of Chesterfield, VA, Brooke and Terrence Irwin , of Canyon, Tiffany and Billy Kemp, of Henryetta, OK, Christopher Matthews, of Canyon, and Sr. Airman Jason Matthews, of Tuscon, AZ; and one great granddaughter, Kilee Kemp.
