Obituary for Frances Berry

Frances Beawayne Berry, 79, of Canyon, passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2024. Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, February 23, 2024 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon with David Gadberry, pastor of Summit Church, officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 22, 2024 at Brooks Chapel.

Frances was born on December 26, 1944 in Amarillo. She treasured her younger years when it was only she and her mother, Ferne Byars. She graduated from Canyon High School in 1963 where she met and fell in love with Julian Ray Berry.

Frances worked at First National Bank of Amarillo after high school, and on the day of their wedding shower, Julian received his draft notice for the United States Army. He and Frances, as a team, would travel from El Paso to New York, finally finishing their tour in Germany. They returned to Canyon after his duty so he could earn his BA in Accounting from WTSU. Shortly after, they moved to Hereford where he established his accounting firm and Frances worked for Hereford State Bank. She also played a significant part in the development of the Cowgirl Hall of Fame in Hereford. In 1988, they moved to Arizona and Frances was the account executive for Anozira Door Systems.

In 1994, Frances and Julian returned to Canyon. She owned and operated Furniture Gallery for many years and then It’s the Berry’s Antique Mall until her retirement. She was active on the originating Economic Development Board in Canyon.

Frances will be fondly remembered as the matriarch that held her family together. Her life was devoted to her family, and she was instrumental in helping raise her grandchildren.

Frances and Julian enjoyed 57 years together before he preceded her in death on December 21, 2023. She was also preceded in death by her mother, Ferne Kiker, and her stepfather, Crawford Kiker.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Brent and Suzanne Berry and Casey and Jacy Berry; daughter, Tracy Berry; eight grandchildren, Colton, Seth, Isabella, Max, Samantha, Kaia, Joslyn, and Julian Berry; and her sister, Lorry Parker and nephew, Todd Bradshaw.
