Obituary for Forrest Ricketts



Forrest Ricketts, 89, of Amarillo, passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2022. Memorial services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at Brooks Chapel with Nolan Silvey officiating.

Forrest was born on April 16, 1933 in Hereford to James and Mary (Hershey) Ricketts. He married Nelda Guy on July 13, 1952 in Hereford and they were married for seventy years before she preceded him in death on November 3, 2022.

Forrest was a farmer and a printer, working with Nelda for many years at First Printing Company in Hereford. He also worked for Arrowhead Mills in Hereford. He was an ordained minister and his life’s passion was prison ministry, which he enjoyed for many years.

Forrest and Nelda were longtime members of Covenant Love Christian Church in North Richland Hills, Texas. He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed conveying that through his many wood carvings. He was also a very talented artist.

The family would like to thank his caregivers at Accent Care Hospice for their wonderful care.

Forrest is also preceded in death by his parents, a brother, J.A. Ricketts, and a brother-in-law, Lloyd Smith.

Survivors include his children, Janet Owens and husband, David, Jeff Ricketts and wife, Emma, Sara Wieck and husband, Chris, Celia McCallie and husband, Jack, Dan Ricketts and wife, Sheila; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; fours siblings, Albert Ricketts and wife, Jean, Mary Beth Smith, Ralph Ricketts and wife, Carmelita, and Fred Ricketts and wife, Sheryl; and a sister-in-law, Lotus Ricketts.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to your favorite charity.
