Obituary for ETHEL VEAL

Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, September 3, 2005 at Coulter Road Baptist Church of Amarillo with Rev. Ron Whitt, senior pastor, officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 3:00 P.M. Saturday at the Childress Cemetery in Childress, Texas with Kerry Woods of the First Baptist Church officiating. Ethel was born July 24, 1918 in Red River County, Texas to Lonnie and Gracie Ellen (Toney) Pirtle. She moved to Childress as a small child and graduated from Childress High School in 1936. On October 24, 1936 she married Arthur Veal in Childress where they made their home until 1996. They then moved to Roswell, New Mexico for nine years to be closer to family. The past year they have resided in Amarillo. Arthur and Ethel would have been married 69 years in October. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and dedicated her life to her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Billy Veal, two sisters, Christine Dowis and Ruby Stillwell, and one brother, Weldon Pirtle. Survivors include her husband, Arthur Veal, of the home; two daughters, Diana Newberry and husband, Jerry, of Spokane Washington, and Louise LaGrone and husband, Tommy, of Amarillo; four grandchildren, Sandy Jobert and husband, Mick, of Frisco, TX, Kimberly Gines and husband, Matt, of Clayton, Washington, Steven Meek and wife, Karen, of Spokane, Washington, and Greg Meek and wife, Jen, of San Antonio, TX; nine great grandchildren; one brother, Warren Pirtle, of Great Falls, Montana; and one sister, Belle Douglas, of Terre Haute, Indiana.
