Obituary for ESSIE FORBES

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Canyon with Dr. David Lowrie, Jr. officiating. Graveside services will be at 9:30 A.M. on Tuesday at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Borger. What an incredibly wonderful life God gave to Essie Forbes. She was born the youngest of 10 children on February 27, 1911 to George and Annie Laura Loyd in McClean, Texas. After graduating from high school in Clovis, New Mexico, she married Walter Gerald Forbes in July 1931. The couple moved to Borger in October 1933. After raising her two children, Essie worked as financial secretary at First Baptist Church in Borger for 17 years. She moved to Canyon in 1970 where she served First Baptist Church as a church secretary for several years. Essie enjoyed many passions in her life. Her first love was for her Lord. She accepted Christ as her Savior during her youth at an evangelistic meeting. She and Walter were very happy in serving Him through their church. Essie relished the fellowship her Sunday School classes and Women"s Missionary Union groups afforded. Her second love was for her husband and family. She was an adoring wife who shared Walter"s enjoyment of family gatherings at home and on fishing excursions on the pontoon boat at Lake Meredith. She was a wonderful mother and a patient and loving Meme to her six grandchildren. Her third passion was for creating things of beauty. Her art talent produced beautiful landscapes and ceramics. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1968 and her son-in-law, Phillip Langen in 2003. Survivors include her daughter, Jerrie Langen, of Canyon; her son and daughter-in-law, Clinton and Barbara Forbes, of Ruidoso, NM; six grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and seven great, great grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to the First Baptist Church Library or the Quilting Ministry at the First Baptist Church, 1717 4th Avenue, Canyon, TX 79015.
