Obituary for ELON BAKER

Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at the University Church of Christ with David Lough, minister, officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 22, at Brooks Chapel. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery. Louis Elon Baker was born on November 3, 1930 in Granger, Texas to Roy and Leona Robbins Baker. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Southwest Texas State University and served as Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army. He married Lou French on December 8, 1956 in San Marcos, Texas and they moved to Canyon in 1968. He was employed for thirty-three years by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, serving first as a game warden at Menard County, Texas and then as Park Superintendent at Palo Duro Canyon State Park for twenty-five years. He was a member of Canyon Lions Club, Canyon City Lodge A.F. and A.M., Khiva Shrine Temple, Lubbock Scottish Rite Bodies, and the University Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Rubie Lee Baker Hoes. Survivors include his wife, Lou Baker, of the home; two sons, Harley Baker and wife, Darla, of Canyon, and Barry Baker and wife, Cindy, of Canyon; one brother, Robert Roy Baker, of Austin; granddaughter, Becky Baker, of Canyon; grandniece, Dakota Horner, of Canyon; four nephews and two nieces. The family suggests memorials be to the High Plains Children"s Home, PO Box 7748, Amarillo, Texas 79114.
