Services will be 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at Brooks Chapel with Dr. David Lowrie, Pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Dreamland Cemetery. Elna Howell was born on March 27, 1910 to Barney D. Springer and Bertha Opelia Thompson Springer in Chickasaw County, Mississippi. She married Stacy S. Howell on April 28, 1925 in Canyon. She is a member of the First Baptist Church, King"s Daughters Sunday School Class and a past member and secretary of Amarillo Baptist Association. She was also a Charter Member of Ralph Home Demonstration Club. Elna and her family came from Mississippi to Texas by covered wagon in 1922. The trip was about 1,000 miles. It took six weeks to make the trip. Elna and her family left Mississippi in early May and arrived over at Canyon around the middle of June. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1998. Survivors include her daughter Teddie Poindexter of Hereford; sister, Katherine Ford of Canyon; granddaughter, Barbara Manahan of Lubbock; grandson, Terry Don Poindexter of Denver, CO; five great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
