Obituary for Ella Mae Whitley

Ella Mae Whitley, 70, of Amarillo, passed away on Wednesday, March 24, 2021. Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at Generation Next Worship Center with Pastor Tommy Fulgham officiating. Graveside services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Angel Fire, NM. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon.

Ella Mae was born on July 3, 1950 in Amarillo to Jessie and Helen Brooks Jones. She was a 1968 graduate of Palo Duro High School and attended Amarillo College. She married Kenneth Dale Whitley in Amarillo on May 29, 1994, and he preceded her in death on June 26, 2020.

Ella Mae was a deputy for Potter County from 1988 to December of 2002 where she was an AFIS Operator and ID Tech, now known as Crime Scene Investigator. She was also qualified to testify in court as Fingerprint Expert. Ella Mae was actively involved with the Fraternal Order of Police and a member of Generation Next Worship Center. She enjoyed working with her genealogy group and volunteering for the Republican Headquarters. She loved shopping and photography and was an avid collector of books.

Ella Mae was also preceded in death by her son, Gaylon “Patrick” Moore, and a grandson, Jules Moore. Survivors include two children, Crystal Evans and husband, David of Amarillo, and J.J. Moore of Amarillo; four grandchildren, Hannah and Rylee Moore and Kadie and David Evans; her brother, Curtis Jones and wife, Mary of Amarillo; sister, Kathy Jones of Amarillo; and several nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorials be to Operation Smile, 3641 Faculty Boulevard, Virginia Beach, VA 23453.
