Obituary for EDWARD J. WIECK

Services will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 18, 2012 at St. Ann"s Catholic Church in Canyon with Bishop Patrick Zurek, Rev. Daniel Dreher, and Rev. Phu Phan, officiating. A Vigil will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Friday, August 17, 2012 at St. Ann"s Catholic Church with Deacon Gabe Rivas officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary"s Catholic Cemetery in Umbarger, Texas. Edward J. Wieck was born on April 20, 1923 on the Wieck homestead two miles west of Umbarger, Texas to Louis and Mary Wieck. He attended Price College in Amarillo. He married Armella Marie Reinart on January 22, 1946 in Hereford, Texas and was a farmer, rancher and businessman in Umbarger. He was a member of St. Ann"s Catholic Church and served as chairman of St. Ann"s Building Committee, St. Ann"s Finance Council and Diocese of Amarillo Financial Council. He was also a member of St. Mary"s Choir and taught Sunday School there for twenty years. Ed was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, a Knight of Columbus Grand Knight in Umbarger, and received the Bishops Cross Award in 2007 from the Diocese of Amarillo. He was chairman of St. Mary"s Sausage Festival and supported the WT Catholic Student Center. He served on the board of directors for Adams Resources for thirty years and attended numerous Houston Oiler and Tennessee Titan games with owner, Bud Adams. He became an avid Oiler / Titan fan and had the opportunity to meet George H. W. Bush, Farrah Fawcett, and Dan Pastorini. He also served on the Canyon and Umbarger ISD school boards and was a director for First National Bank of Canyon. He was a member of Texas-New Mexico Sugar Beet Growers Association. He was also a director for Big T Pump Company, Southwest Feed Yards, Champion Feed Yards, and received the Top Hand Award in 1978 from the Randall County Extension Office. He was president and founder of Six Wix, Inc., served on the Soil and Water Conservation District, and was a volunteer fireman in Umbarger......name a service project. Ed was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing dominoes and woodworking. Ed was an eternal optomist and treated everyone with kind words and humor. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Daniel Joseph Wieck, three brothers, L. J. Wieck, Joe Wieck, and John Wieck, and three sisters, Elizabeth Skypala, Josephine Friemel, and Clara Reinart. Survivors include his wife, Armella Marie Wieck; in-laws, Helen Reinart, Leander and Clara Reinart, Edna Reinart, Elmer and Irene Reinart, and Elfrieda Reinart and Edna Wieck; seven children, Jim and Carolyn Wieck, Arnie and Diana Wieck, Kenneth and Debbie Wieck, Randy and Ann Wieck, Marianne Wieck Doshier and David, Bernie and Diane Wieck, and Debbie Wieck Godfrey and Jerry; twenty-four grandchildren, Charlotte Strafuss, Mark Wieck, Brad Wieck, Jeff Wieck, Sherri Walker, Jamie Williams, Bruce Wieck, Jason Wieck, Russell Wieck, Tracie Jackson, Jennifer Rindhal, Kim Fuentes, Kendra Wieck, Laurel Wieck, Ryan Wieck, Jackie Wieck, Alex Wied, Luke Wieck, Nicole Houle, Blaine Wieck, Shane Wieck, Alyssa Wieck, Ashley Godfrey, and Meagan Godfrey; and twenty-two great grandchildren.
