Obituary for E.C. Jenkins

E.C. Jenkins, 82, of Canyon, Texas died August 10, 2021. Private graveside services well be held. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, August 13, 2021 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon.

E.C. was born in Brownfield, Texas on October 7, 1938. He graduated from Lovington High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1967 and his Master of Science degree in 1971 from Northwest Louisiana University. While he was in Fort Lewis Junior College, he played football. He served in the United States Army from 1962-1964 and he played football for the Army team. E.C. coached for 28 years. He coached in Texas, New Mexico, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. During this time, his team was State Runner-up in football at Texhoma, Oklahoma in 1972. He was recognized as one of the Outstanding Coaches of the Golden Spread. E.C. also had a State Runner-up track team from Texarkana, Arkansas. E.C. loved coaching and football; therefore, he invented with US Patent an Easy Sled for training an athlete in proper techniques of blocking, tackling, and charging.

E.C. loved playing golf and was a member of the Tulia Country Club. He was also a member of the First Methodist Church of Canyon, Texas.

E.C. is preceded in death by his father, Gene Jenkins, his mother, Buena Jenkins, and his sister, Jan Peterson. He is survived by his wife, Martha of 36 years; his daughter, Jennifer, who is married to Nathan Bilbrey of New Braunfels, Texas and their three children, Nicholas, Nash and Jolie; his son, Gene Walker of Amarillo, Texas with his two daughters, Ashley and Taylor; and a brother-in-law, Mike Peterson and his children, all of Alaska. He is also survived by his extended family, Jerry and Tonya Cline, with their son, Josh, and a daughter, Courtney of Nevada, Texas; daughter, Debra and husband, Dr. Andy Hawari, and children, Zachary and Breanna from Mineola, Texas.
