Obituary for E. Jay Hail

Judge E. Jay Hail, 74, of Canyon passed away on Monday, March 18, 2019.  Services will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, March 22, 2019 at the First Baptist Church of Canyon with Dr. David Lowrie, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Decatur and Rev. Steve Olsen, pastor, officiating.  Burial will follow in Dreamland Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at Brooks Chapel. Judge E. Jay Hail was born on September 30, 1944 in Savanah, Georgia to I. J. and Ada Kennedy Hail.  He graduated from Abilene High School and attended the University of Texas and McMurry University.  While at UT, he played the trombone in the University of Texas Longhorn Band.  E. Jay married Leslie Mullis on July 21, 1979 in Amarillo.  She preceded him in death on June 6, 2015. E. Jay served as a Justice of the Peace for Randall County for twenty-four years and was known for being fair and honest.  He really enjoyed being a part of the community and was active as a member of Canyon Masonic Lodge, Canyon Lions Club, and Shriners.  He was also a member of the First Baptist Church where he sang in the FBC Choir.  E. Jay was very family oriented and loved his wife and daughters dearly.  He continued to be a big University of Texas fan. E. Jay was also preceded in death by his parents.  Survivors include two daughters, Meghan Hail of Canyon and Kathryn Hail Begeman and husband, Heath of Harrold; two grandsons, Robert and Reese; and many other extended family members. The family suggests memorials be to Canyon Lions Club, PO Box 548, Canyon, TX 79015 or Shriners Children’s Hospital, PO Box 328, Amarillo, TX 79105.
