Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 15, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church of Canyon with the Rev. Curtis House, pastor of Wolfforth United Methodist Church and Rev. Clark Williams, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Canyon, officiating. Private graveside services will be held at Dreamland Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 14, at Brooks Chapel. Dr. Moore was born November 9, 1919 in Gorgas, Alabama. He graduated from Baylor University and the University of Louisville Medical College. He served in the United States Army as a medical officer from April 1946 to February 1948. Dr. Moore moved to Canyon in 1951 to begin a medical practice and continued until his retirement in 1991. Dr. Moore was very involved in the community; he served on the Canyon ISD Board of Trustees for nine years, also serving as president, helped found the Babe Ruth League baseball program, was a member of the Rotary Club of Canyon and served as the music leader for years, served on the WT Foundation Board, and the Board of Development at Baylor University. He was a very active member at the First United Methodist Church of Canyon and served on the finance committee, the building committee, and sang in the choir. Dr. Moore provided scholarships to both WTAMU and Baylor University. He was awarded "Citizen of the Decade" by the Canyon Chamber of Commerce for the 1970"s. Dr. Moore was the Medical Director of the Care Unit, a drug and alcohol rehab center at Palo Duro Hospital. At his retirement he auditioned and was accepted to play in the WTAMU Symphonic Band. His band, the Fabulous Five, entertained throughout the Panhandle for years and raised numerous funds for the band scholarship at WT. Dr. Moore was a loving father, grandfather, friend, and upstanding citizen of Canyon. He was preceded in death by his brother Weston Moore, his father George Dudley Moore, and his mother, Evelyn Leisk Moore. Dr. Moore was a devoted husband to his wife, Lillis, and a loving father to their eight children: Skip and Jamie Moore and Bea and Wink Clark of Canyon, Joe and Dema Moore of Waco, Gary and Paula Moore of Amarillo, Richard and Angel Thompson of Rockwall, Bill and Elaine Moore of Sugarland, Anna Bland and Scott Aston of Dallas, Eloise and Steven Kissner of Lewisville, eighteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be directed to the WTAMU Foundation for the Dudley Moore Band Scholarship fund at WTAMU Box 60766, Canyon, Texas 79016-0001 or the First United Methodist Church of Canyon.
