Obituary for DOUGLAS MARSHALL

Memorial services will be at 4:00 PM Friday, March 14, 2008 at the First Presbyterian Church with The Rev. Dr. Don McDonald, pastor, officiating. Graveside services will be at 3:00 PM Friday, March 14, 2008 at Dreamland Cemetery. Douglas Marshall was born on May 16, 1915 in Graham, Texas to Charles and Gladys Burns Marshall. He married Bessie Fay Donnell at Eliasville, Texas on October 4, 1936. He was a lifelong Presbyterian, and a former Deacon and Elder in the Church. He graduated from Texas Tech College in 1936 with a degree in Agriculture. He and Bessie Fay owned, operated, and lived on their ranch in Randall County for 57 years before moving to Canyon in 1993. Douglas ranched for 67 years. He was also a professional Farm Manager and Accredited Rural Appraiser for 20 years while still ranching. He was the State President in 1974 of the Texas Society of Farm and Ranch Managers and Appraisers. Douglas was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Douglas Marshall, two sisters, Erline Marshall Wallace and Rosalind Marshall Cox, and a brother, Walter Thomas Marshall. Mr. Marshall is survived by his wife, Bessie Fay Marshall, of Canyon; son, Dr. Arvle Marshall and wife, Esther, of Opelika, Alabama; daughter, Dr. Mary Gladys Marshall, of Bryan, Texas; sister, Annie Lee Marshall Terry, of Wichita Falls, Texas; two grandchildren, Scott Marshall, of Tallahassee, Florida, and Peggy Marshall Dodd, of Statesboro, Georgia; six great grandchildren, William, David, Charles, and Elijah Dodd, and Nicholas and Julia Marshall; brother-in-law, Hugh Donnell and wife, Frances, of Breckenridge, Texas; and sister-in-law, Eloise Duncan, of Abilene, Texas. The family suggests memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 904 19th Street, Canyon, TX 79015.
