Obituary for Dorothy Cecilia Szydloski

Dorothy Cecilia Szydloski, 73, of Amarillo and Hereford, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Hereford on Thursday, September 16, 2021. A public Vigil will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Monday, September 20, 2021 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Hereford. Private Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 21, 2021. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Amarillo, Texas.

Dorothy was born on February 22, 1948 in Canyon, Texas to Edward R. and Cecilia Irlbeck Szydloski. Dorothy taught school in Hereford ISD for 49 years. She is the current and many years sponsor of the Hereford Highschool cheerleaders and class sponsor for many classes. She also taught drivers education for many years. She worked tirelessly for the betterment of education and said many times that the school was her life. Dorothy was a longtime member of Delta Xi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma sorotity.

Dorothy was very active in her church and her community. She was a longtime member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Canyon and most recently St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Hereford. Most recently she was partial to Hereford Food Pantry. Over the years she worked on many committees and functions in her church community.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, William Edward Szydloski. She is survived by her nephew, Phillip Szydloski and wife, Lacie and her niece, Megan Szydloski Reed and husband, Hutch, all of Amarillo; great nephews and nieces, Delilah and William Szydloski and Merritt and Wesley Reed of Amarillo; and sister-in-law, Loy Szydloski Haley of Amarillo. She also has a very large extended family.

Dorothy was loved and admired by many and will be greatly missed. The family requests memorials be made to a scholarship set up in her name at Happy State Bank, Hereford Food Pantry, her or your church home, or a favorite charity.
