Obituary for DOROTHY ROSE OPPE

Services will be 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, September 20, 2006 at St. Ann"s Catholic Church with Rev. Phu Phan, officiating. There will a be a Rosary at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at Brooks Funeral Directors Chapel in Canyon. Burial will be a private interment at Dreamland Cemetery. Dorothy Rose Oppe was born on August 3, 1920 to Arthur Edward and Dorothea Rung Fawkes in Buffalo, New York. She graduated high school in 1940 and entered nurse training at the Meyer Memorial Hospital in Buffalo, New York. She graduated with her RN in Nursing in 1943. In 1946, Dorothy and her mother moved to Denver, Colorado for health reasons. She received her BS in Nursing from the University of Colorado Boulder., Dorothy and her mother moved to San Diego, California in 1950 and worked at San Diego General Hospital. In San Diego, she met and married Hubert W. Oppe, an exchange student, from Bremen, Germany. Dorothy, her husband and four children moved to Canyon in 1963, where her husband taught at West Texas State University. Dorothy was a member of the St. Ann"s Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Donald Fawkes. Survivors include; her husband, Hubert W. Oppe of the home; two sons, Michael Oppe of Springfield, Oregon and Thomas Oppe of Vicksburg, Mississippi; 2 daughters, Janet Schulte and husband, James of Amarillo and Debby Arrant and husband, Eddie of Plano; and five grandchildren, Christopher, Nicholas and Katie Schulte of Amarillo, and Michael and Daniel Arrant of Plano.
