Dorothy Jean Joiner, 89, formerly of Idalou and Lubbock, passed away on Monday, January 25, 2021 in Amarillo.
Dorothy was born on November 16, 1931 in Abilene, Texas to Roy and Ruby Jenkins Clark. She graduated from Lubbock High School in 1950. In 1951, she married Murry Joiner in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
Dorothy and Murry were blessed with four children: Debbie, Kathy, Bart and Jan. Her children admired her hard work and desire to further her education all while being a devoted wife and mother.
Dorothy was a teacher in Idalou from 1970 to 1995. Teaching was what she was meant to do. She loved it. She especially loved teaching science classes.
Her children appreciated how she put an emphasis on nurturing each one of their individual gifts and talents. She had a gift for helping them find their place in life. Dorothy adored her family and will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren for always having a pan of black eyed peas ready when they stopped by.
She was preceded in death her husband, Murry and a granddaughter, Jennifer Bowyer.
Survivors include her four children, Debbie Peacock and husband, Ray of Midland, Kathy Cardona and husband, Ray of Loveland, Ohio, Bart Joiner of Louisville, Kentucky, and Jan Cowan and husband, Doug of Canyon; five grandchildren, Bridgit Walker, Drew Peacock, Ashley Joiner, Ryan Cowan and Katy Stewart; and twelve great grandchildren.
Dorothy’s wishes were to be cremated and for her family to gather privately and celebrate her life.
