Obituary for Dorothy Jean Gatten

Dorothy Jean Gatten, 94, of Royse City, passed away on Sunday, July 11, 2021. Graveside services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at Dreamland Cemetery in Canyon, Texas with David Bagwell, associate pastor of Living Water Christian Fellowship, officiating.

Dorothy was born on July 11, 1927 in Clarendon, Texas to Glenn Albert and Grace Mary (Barnett) Costley. She graduated from West Texas High School and began her career as secretary at West Texas State University, City of Richardson, and special needs schools for children. She married Robert Eldon Gatten on May 13, 1945 in Amarillo, and they were married for 73 years before he preceded her in death on August 5, 2018. They moved to the Dallas area in 1978.

Dorothy was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church, as an early dedicated member in the Canyon congregation, and currently her congregation at First Christian Church of Rockwall.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Grace Costley, her husband, Robert E. Gatten, and three brothers, Calvin Costley, Robert Costley, and Jerry Costley, Sr.

Survivors include two sons, Galen G. Gatten, Sr. of Rockwall, TX and Davin Alan Gatten of Royse City, TX; daughter, Mary Darene Turner of Mesquite, TX; five grandsons, Galen Gatten, Jr., Brian Gatten, Stephen Gatten, Kory Turner, and Kerry Turner; granddaughter, Kallie Turner; three great-grandsons, Oliver Gatten, Arthur Gatten, and Marlow Gatten; and one great-granddaughter, Brooke Turner.
