Obituary for Doris Jane Phillips

Doris Jane Phillips, 80, of Canyon passed away on January 30, 2020, surrounded by her family.

Services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Rick Enns, pastor, officiating. Graveside will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at Brooks Chapel.

Doris was born on July 29, 1939 in Borger, Texas to Robert Earl and Sybil Irene Weldon Ross. She graduated from Borger High School. On December 13, 1967, she married George “Soggie” Phillips in Stinnett, Texas.

Doris was a certified Nursing Assistant and served as a volunteer at the Amarillo VA Health Care System.
Doris was an avid fan of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in all their activities. She especially enjoyed playing video games with her great-grandsons. She was an expert crafter and quilter. She loved the Sod Poodles, Nascar, the Bushland Lady Falcons Softball Team and traveling.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Johnny Lee Ross; and son-in-law Jay Macarty.

Survivors include children, Linda Kirkland and husband James, of Mount Pleasant, Laurie Kitzel and husband Dave, of Corsicana, Vicki Macarty, of Frisco, Connie Valle and husband Buddy, of Fritch, Georgie Cornelsen and husband David, of Canyon, and Angela Followill and husband, Rodney, of Canyon; grandchildren, Tonja King, Ty Kirkland, Lori Becker, Denzil Anderson, Amber Parkhurst, Amy Rodriguez, Zack Valle, John Cornelsen, Brooklyn Cornelsen, Kandice O’Dell, Kimberly Cummings, and Dillan Mena; great-grandchildren, Trent and Tayte Doddy, Tristan Kirkland, McKynlee and Kinzer Wilkinson, Wacey, Waylon and Walker Valle, Addyson Cornelsen, Payton O’Dell, Chase Mena and baby Mena; and special friends, Lori and Adrian Smith, of Granbury, Wayne and Carla Powell, of Canyon, Paul “PJ” and Tara Johnson of Amarillo and Donis Jacobs, of Bushland.

The family suggests memorial be made to the Bushland Lady Falcons Softball Team, 1201 S. FM 2381, Bushland, TX 79012.
