Obituary for DETA LORITA JARRELL BLACK

Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at Brooks Chapel with Dr. David Lowrie, pastor of First Baptist Church of Canyon, officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery. Deta Lorita Jarrell Black was born June 28, 1918 in Travis, Texas and went to be with her Lord on Sept. 2, 2007 in Dallas, Texas. Deta was a long time resident of Canyon, Texas but lived in Dallas for the past six years. On October 21, 1950 she married Roland S. Black in Austin, Texas. She served her country from 1943 - 1945 as a Registered nurse in the U.S. Army. She was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-two years and siblings, Mary Jarrell Douglas, James L. Jarrell, Hardy S. Jarrell, and Malcolm Jarrell. Before her retirement in 1982, she was a R.N. for Neblett Clinic in Canyon, Texas working for Dr. Manley Bryan, Dr. Edwin Low and Dr. Leta Boswell. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Canyon for many years. She was a loving aunt to a host of nieces and nephews and a precious life-long friend to many. Deta will be remembered as having a deep love and commitment for her family, a flair for fashion, her chocolate pie, and dedication to her profession of nursing. She is survived by sisters-in law, Lucille Jarrell of Hemphill, Texas; Wanda Jarrell of Hemphill, Texas; Chloe Ann Black of Canyon, Texas, Katy Byrd and husband Roy of Toyahville, Texas and Betty Schneider of Kingman, Arizona.
