Obituary for DEBRA DEE ORTIZ

Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, October 2, 2008 at St. Ann"s Catholic Church with Father Anthony Neusch, Diocese of Amarillo, officiating. Rosary will be at 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 1, at St. Ann"s Catholic Church with Deacon Gabriel Rivas, officiating. Debra Dee Ortiz was born on May 23, 1990 in Dimmitt, Texas to Eusebio and Minerva Acevedo Ortiz. She was preceded in death by her mother in 2001, maternal grandparents, Sabastian and Marcelina Acevedo, and Aunt, Teresa Acevedo Longoria. She was a 2008 graduate of Canyon High School where she was involved in the Canyon Eagle Soaring Pride Band. She served as Drum Major and received the John Phillip Sousa Award in 2008, Outstanding Band Member, Honor Band, USMC "Semper Fidelis" Award for Musical Excellence, and Division I UIL. She was the Associate Editor in Journalism and a member of the Key Club. She was attending Amarillo College in preparation for a degree in Veterinary Medicine. She was a member of St. Ann"s Catholic Church. She was a champion at Guitar Hero, loved animals, and was an avid artist. Debra was a great sister, loving daughter, and her sweet spirit will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and classmates from Canyon High School. Keep shining bright my rising "star." Survivors of Debra include her father and stepmother, Chevo and Kathy Ortiz, of Canyon; two sisters, Diana Ortiz, of Lubbock, Ashley Ortiz, of the home; brother, Daniel Ortiz, of Amarillo; fiance, Case Crow, of Canyon; two step-brothers, Christopher Wilson, of Canyon, Mike Wilson, of Borger; step-sister, Cheryl Collins, of Canyon; grandparents, Justino and Hortencia Ortiz, of Lubbock; aunts and uncles, Fidel Ortiz, of Friona, Beatrice Ortiz Fuentes, of Dimmitt, Justin Jr. Ortiz, of Lubbock, Carlos Ortiz, of Amarillo, Mary Elizabeth Ortiz Esquivel, of Allen, TX, George Acevedo, of Canyon, Lupe Acevedo, of Dimmitt, Miguel Angel Acevedo, of Danton, Ohio, Luis Acevedo, of Dimmitt; twenty two cousins; and numerous family members in South Texas and Mexico.
