DeAnna Lois Stocker was born Dec 5, 1941 to Lois and Earnest Stocker of Umbarger Texas. She lived a full and wonderful life. She was the oldest sister in a family of 9 children. She joined the Air Force in 1961 so that she could "see the world" but of course, she got stationed in Amarillo. She was honorably discharged after serving two years. DeAnna married Gene Magera, also enlisted in the Air Force, on May 31, 1963. Sadly, they divorced in 1974 and again after a second try in 1980, she never remarried. Her strength and determination came from her Faith in Christ. She was a devoted Roman Catholic and a long time member of Corpus Christi Catholic church in Lubbock. Her faith was strong and her hope was in Jesus" return. She was an avid historian, and restored and remodeled homes her entire life, long before the phrase "flip this house" was invented. She was an Architect by profession. She obtained a BA degree in History, an MS in Industry and Technology and another MS in Architecture and Urban development. She traveled extensively throughout her life. In 1994 she took a month long trip around the world. DeAnna also had many careers in her 70 years: she was a licensed pilot, a model, a Professor of Architecture & Interior Design, an instructor at Bauder Fashion College, a Real Estate Agent, a City Planner, an Assistant Director of a Historic park, an Architect for the City of Lubbock and a restorer of more than 70 homes and buildings. DeAnna was very active in her community. She was affectionately called "Mayor of Afton". She appreciated the history of her town, Afton, Texas, and had high hopes and detailed plans for its future development. She was a strong and tough mother and grandmother. She did show her soft side with her herd of mustang horses and they were a big part of her life for the last 30 years. She often said, "Horses are easier than kids because they don"t talk back." Recently she welcomed her 15 year old grandson, George Harward, into her home to help him get his "head on straight". And that"s exactly what happened. She taught him to use tools and work hard taking care of the ranch. They were good for each other and lit up each others life. They were on the way to church Sunday December 11th and in the fog and wetness, they were killed in a wreck with an 18 wheeler truck. Death was instant, so they did not suffer. It was not the end, but the beginning of their new life with Christ. She was preceded in death by her brother, Danny Stocker and daughter, Mary DeAnn Manrriquez. Survivors include sons, Joe, James and John Magera; daugher, Dallas Miller; 12 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brothers, Gene, Glen, Billy, Jeff and Charlie Stocker; sisters, Aline Stocker and Frances Dorsey.
