Obituary for David Thompson

David Thompson, 71, of Amarillo, passed away on Monday, March 29, 2021.

Services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, April 3, 2021 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon. Burial will follow in Dreamland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, April 2 at Brooks Chapel.

David was born on May 3, 1949 in Uniontown, Pennsylvania to John Thompson, Sr. and Legatha Harford Thompson. He was a graduate of Uniontown High School.

He married his high school sweetheart and love of his life of 50 years, Drenda Waugh, in August of 1968. She preceded him in death on October 19, 2019.

David served in the US Army. He was a 101st Airborne, 81st Airborne, Special Forces Paratrooper assigned to the 501st Supply Company, that lead many troops in Vietnam.

He was retired from the TDCJ in Amarillo.

He loved his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was also preceded death by his parents, son, David Thompson, Jr., daughter, Kassandra Garrett, three brothers, John Thompson, Jr., Neil Thompson, and Spencer, and two sisters, Betty Schuster, and Wanda Henson.

Survivors include his daughters, Vanessa Hodges Trevathan and husband Shawn, and Kindra Fletcher and husband Gary, and Diana Leggett; grandchildren, Garrett Hodges, Kaitlyn Young and husband Stephen, Austin Hodges, Mackenzie Hodges, Michael Willis, and Gary Fletcher III, Sonya McMinn, and Reese McMinn; a great grandson, Jaxton Johnson; son-in-law, Shawn Garrett; two brothers, Tom Littlehouse and Charles Thompson; parents-in-law, Zella Aiken and Carl S. Jones; special nieces, Batima Schuster, Penny Schuster, and Keila Hopper; special nephews, Chris Berry and Timmy Schuster; and a host of other beloved nieces and nephews.
