Graveside services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 10, 2004 at Dreamland Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 A.M. at the First Presbyterian Church of Canyon, with the Rev. Dr. Don McDonald, pastor, and the Rev. Don Stribling pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Lamesa, officiating. David A. LaBrie was born in Baltimore, MD on March 23, 1937 to Laurent J. and Marie S. LaBrie. The family moved to Rye, New York where he attended elementary and secondary schools and graduated from Rye High School in 1955. He attended St. Lawrence University and graduated with a BA degree from Bethany College, Bethany, West Virginia in 1961. He obtained a master"s degree from Highlands University in Las Vegas, New Mexico in 1965. In 1968 he earned a PhD. Degree from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC and received a NIH grant to the University of Texas. He served in the U.S. Army at Edgewood Arsenal, Maryland from 1961 - 1963. He married Lucy Schaefer in Steubenville, Ohio on July 21, 1962. In 1970 he began his teaching career at WTSU and taught for 30 years. In 1993 he received the teaching excellence award. He served on various university committees and chaired the Faculty Senate. He was department head of biology-geosciences for four years in the mid 1980"s and then returned to full time teaching. He was a member and elder of First Presbyterian Church and served as Clerk of Session for 10 years and on various committees and sang in the choir. Survivors include his wife, Lucy LaBrie, of the home; one daughter, Gwynne LaBrie, of the home; one son, Lt. D. Walter LaBrie, and wife, Jessica, of Norfolk, VA; two grandsons, Turner and Schaefer, of Norfolk, VA; brother, Larry, and wife, Betty, of Pine Knoll Shores, NC; one niece, Laura; two nephews, Laurent and Louis; and one cousin, The Rev. Bob Sternat.
