Obituary

David Goodman, 68, of Amarillo, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2020. Private services will be held at Brooks Chapel on Friday, May 1, 2020 with burial following at Memory Gardens Cemetery.

David Goodman was born on January 29, 1952 in Quanah, Texas to Harmon and Georgia Mandrell Goodman. He was a 1970 graduate from Hirschi High School in Wichita Falls and married Cindy McDonald on September 2, 1972 in Amarillo. David received his LVN degree from Amarillo College and worked as an Ophthalmic Assistant for Dr.’s Alpar, Taylor, Currie, and Weinberger. He also worked for TSO in Amarillo and then Dr. John Murrell.

David served in the Army National Guard from 1970 to 1976. He was a Mason and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Amarillo. He was an avid Red Sox fan and a published writer. He also enjoyed music and playing the guitar and writing songs for his family. David dearly loved his family and lovingly became a father figure to Cindy’s siblings. He had a huge heart and an endearing dry sense of humor. He had a wonderful laugh and always knew just what to say to make you feel better.

David was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Cindy Goodman of Amarillo; son, Michael Goodman and wife, Erica Vick Goodman of Ft. Drum, New York; daughter, Valorie Goodman Johnson and husband, Andrew of Ft. Huachuca, AZ; seven grandchildren; brother, Bill Goodman; ten nieces and nephews; numerous great nieces and great nephews; one great-great niece and one great-great nephew.

The family suggests memorials be to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
