Obituary for Dave Corley

Dave Corley, 83, of Canyon passed away on August 26, 2018.  Memorial services will be 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Freedom Fellowship Church with Rev. Darren Dye and Craig Corley officiating.  The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Brooks Chapel.  Private interment will be in Dreamland Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors. Dave was born on October 4, 1934 in Lubbock to Eugene and Flo MacEachern Corley.  He graduated from Memphis High School and continued his education at West Texas State University.  He was captain of the football team at WTSU when they won the Tangerine Bowl.  He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education from WTSU and began coaching and teaching in Memphis.  He also taught and coached in Morton and Canyon and became Principal at Canyon Junior High School in 1969.  In 1984, he became Principal at Canyon High School, retiring in 1993.  After retirement from the school system, Dave worked at Panhandle Plains Student Loan Center from 1995 to 2008. Dave married Frances Wright in Memphis on August 10, 1958.  He was a veteran of the U. S. Marines.  He was also very active in his community, serving on the Canyon City Commission, the board for CASP, serving as president of Canyon Retired Teachers, and as president of Kiwanas.  Dave was inducted into the West Texas A&M Hall of Champions in 2013. Dave loved golf and following the Lady Eagle Basketball team.  He also enjoyed woodworking, especially furniture, carving, bird houses, and forts for his children.  He was a barbed wire collector and loved fishing, hunting, and family activities. Dave was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Don Corley.  Survivors include his wife, Frances, of Canyon; three children, Christie Moss, Guyle Corley and wife, Lori, all of Canyon, and Craig Corley and wife, Ginger of New Braunfels; five grandchildren, Chris Corley, Aidan Corley, Alexis Corley, McKenna Corley, and Landon Moss; and sister, Claudia Hanes and husband, Mike, of Lake Kiowa.
