Obituary for Cynthia A. "Cindy" Hanes

Cynthia A. “Cindy” Hanes, 76, of Amarillo, made her journey to Heaven on Wednesday, September 28, 2022.

Cindy was born September 26, 1946 in Vernon, Texas to Beulah Belle (Pond) Phillips and John H. Phillips. She graduated from Abernathy High School in 1965. She married Ralph G. Hanes on December 2, 1966. They later divorced. She worked as a grocery clerk for 15 years in Abernathy and then became a Nanny.

Cindy moved to Austin, Texas in 1985. While in Austin, she continued her work as a Nanny. In 2011, she relocated to Amarillo. Since moving to Amarillo, she has kept in touch with friends in Lubbock, Abernathy, and Austin. She was a resident of Talmage Apartments at the Park Central Retirement Community in Amarillo, where she made many new friends. Cindy’s motto was “to have a friend, you have to be a friend.”

She was preceded in death by her mother, Beulah Belle Pond Phillips, her father, John H. Phillips, and brother, James Phillips. Also, by her maternal grandparents, A.B. and Thelma Pond and her paternal grandparents, Author O. and Ann Nettie Ellen Phillips, as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Ms. Hanes is survived by her Pond and Phillips families, which includes her uncle, Jim Pond of Amarillo; aunt, Maxine Pond of Arlington; step-mother, Maxine Phillips of Austin; siblings, Yvonne Dyer and husband of Sheridan, Wyoming, Sonja Wood of Austin; a special friend, Cynda Hartgraves of Westfield, Massachusetts; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews from both sides of her family.

Memorial services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 29, 2022 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon with Jerry Bell, officiating. Cremains will be placed in the Pond Family plot at the Kelton Cemetery at a later date, where her mother and grandparents are buried.

The family suggests memorials be made to a charity of your choice.
