Obituary for CORBITT RUSSELL MOORE

CORBITT RUSSELL MOORE LIEUTENANT COLONEL, USA (RET.) Memorial services will be held at St. George"s Episcopal Church, 2516 4th Avenue, Canyon, Texas on March 28, 2007, at 1:30 P.M. A reception will follow. A devoted and loving husband of 66 years, wonderful father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Russ passed away after a lengthy illness on March 25, 2007, at Amarillo, Texas. Russ was born on August 24, 1920, in Sparks, Georgia, to James and Arnette Moore. The youngest child of a family of nine, he is preceded in death by all of his brothers and sisters. An eminently kind and gentle man, Russ entered the United States Army as an enlisted soldier at Fort Benning, Georgia, on July 5, 1939. Soon thereafter, he met and married the love of his life, Mary Virginia Howitz, on October 28, 1940. A World War II Veteran, Russ saw service as a Lieutenant in North Africa in 1943, and later in Italy with the 1st Tank Battalion of the 1st Armored Division. He retired from active duty as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1966 after nearly 27 years of honorable service to his country, which has been recognized as meritorious and exceptional. Following his retirement from the Army, Russ went to work for Standard Motor Products until his retirement in Canyon, Texas, in 1990. In his later years, he took great pleasure in working in his yard and garden, reading, and watching the Dallas Cowboys and Atlanta Braves. He is preceded by his beloved daughter, Sharon Agnes Moore Weaver. He is survived by his wife, Mary, son, Russell Moore, and wife, Rebecca, and daughter, Linda Alvarado, and husband, Jesse; grandchildren and later adopted children, Donavan Moore and Sondra Moore; grandchildren, Rebecca Wooters, Brad Moore, Scott Weaver, Allison McDaniel, Justin Alvarado, Andrea Alvarado, and Ryan Alvarado; great grandchildren, Nicolaas Wooters, Tyler Moore, Faith Wooters, and Ashley McDaniel.
