Obituary for Clinton Harrel Glenn

Clinton Harrel Glenn, 87, of Canyon, passed away on Monday, January 1, 2024. Memorial services will be at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at the First Baptist Church of Canyon with Trey Glenn, grandson and staff member of Redeemer Church in Lubbock, officiating. Private family interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery Saturday morning at 10:30 A.M.

Clinton was born on November 19, 1936 in Quail, Texas to Brad and Gladys (Ferguson) Glenn. He was the youngest son and number eight of nine children. His farming heritage goes back to his parents and grandparents.

Clinton graduated from Dimmit High School in 1955 and immediately started farming with two of his brothers near Westway (West of Hereford). He started farming on his own two years later when he was 21 and could obtain financing for his farming operation.

He married Jimmie Carol Hyatt in 1956 and had the first of three children, Brenda, in 1957, with the second, Cheri, following in 1959, and the third, Ross, in 1962.

In 1963, Clinton rented two sections of irrigated land from the Latham family at the intersection of FM2590 and FM2219 in Randall County and built a home on FM 2219. He later purchased and farmed land in Moore County near Etter which he sold to purchase 380 acres of land from Neil Downing near his rented land. He farmed the Latham land for over 53 years and was presently farming his land on Helium and Rockwell Road.
Clinton became involved in the local co-op elevator (Consumers Fuel Association and Elevator) and served on the board from 1975 to 1985, serving as president for most of those ten years.

Clinton was the first farmer to be presented the Outstanding Result Demonstrator in Randall County in 1977. He had the first modern center pivot irrigation sprinkler in Randall County and was always looking for more efficient ways to irrigate to conserve water. In 1988, the Palo Duro Soil and Water Conservation District presented him with the Outstanding Conservation Farmer Award. Then in 2009, he was awarded the Top Hand Award by the Randall County Agricultural Extension Services.

Clinton has always been frugal with his equipment and tractors. He didn’t always have to have the newest equipment and used his mechanical abilities to repair well motors, tractors, combines, and equipment using a cutting torch, welder, a little bailing wire, duct tape, and John Deere green paint.

Clinton was a good neighbor, always willing to help other people. He loaned equipment when needed and gave advice when asked. He was a wonderful husband, father, and Popsy. He did not have the money to attend college, but he made the decision early that all his children were going to have the opportunity to graduate from a university, and he provided for that education.

Clinton was a member of the First Baptist Church of Canyon. He enjoyed snow skiing, tennis, golf, puzzles, and watching football. He always kept the snowmobile and go cart tuned up and ready to go for his grandchildren. He dearly loved following his grandchildren in all their activities through the years.

Clinton was a man of integrity; his word and handshake were his bond. He believed that if a man was honest, worked hard, and worshipped and served the Lord...everything else would take care of itself.

Clinton is preceded in death by three sisters, Pearl Opsal, Betty Masten, and Micki Nix, three brothers, Stephen Glenn, Winiford Glenn, and Donald Glenn, and daughter, Cheri Reinert.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Jimmie Glenn of the home; his daughter, Brenda Rusten and husband, Johnny of Lubbock; his son, Ross Glenn and wife, Stacy of Canyon; nine grandchildren, Lissa and Shawn Anglin of Lubbock, Lauren Rusten of Lubbock, Layne and Justin Cooper of Lubbock, Landon Reinbold of Amarillo, Mason and Brittany Reinbold of Leander, Trey and Katie Glenn of Lubbock, Trevor and Bethany Glenn of San Antonio, and Taryn Glenn of Austin; eleven great-grandchildren; a sister, Sandi Glenn Becker; and a brother, Earl Glenn.
