Obituary for Cheryl Renee Powers Root
Cheryl Renee Powers Root, 64, of Canyon, passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2020. Memorial services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, November 23, 2020 at the First Presbyterian Church of Amarillo with Murray Gossett officiating. Private graveside services will be at Dreamland Cemetery in Canyon.
Cheryl was born on January 14, 1956, in Lubbock to Joe Richard and Gayle “G.G.” (Priddy) Powers. She was a 1973 graduate of Tascosa High School and received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from West Texas A&M University in 1994. Cheryl worked at Angels of Care Pediatric Home Health and the William P. Clements Unit, retiring in the Spring of 2020.
Cheryl loved gardening, camping, the beach, and anything outdoors. She was also an amazing cook and enjoyed online shopping. She was passionate about her boys and was a loving YaYa to her grandsons.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her mother, Gayle Powers. Survivors include her sons, Richard Root of Flower Mound and Berry Root and wife, Heather of Amarillo; her grandsons, Jackson Wyatt, 9, and Samuel James, 7, of Amarillo; her father, Joe Powers and wife, Donna of Idalou; her brother, Danny Joe Powers and wife, Laura of Amarillo; her sister, Kimberly Smith Powers of Austin; four stepsisters, Karla Clanton, Sheila Atkinson, Sherry Heinecke, and Kiesha Richards; stepbrother, Ray Boring; and her dearest friend, Staci Hamacher-Nelson and daughter, Tori.
The family suggests memorials be made to Evelyn’s Sunshine Cottage, PO Box 50974, Amarillo, Texas 79159.
