Memorial services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 21, 2004 at the First Baptist Church of Canyon with Rev. David Lowrie, pastor, officiating. Private Interment at Dreamland Cemetery. Charles Edward Gerald was born to Thomas S. Gerald and Beulah Agnes Gerald on September 25, 1922 in Gatesville, Texas. Charles was a graduate of Canyon High School, class of 1940. He moved to Portland, Oregon and worked as a lathe operator, building "Victory Ships" for the war effort of WWII. In Portland, he met his future wife, Nora Ella Christensen, who was a nursing student attending the University of Portland. He entered military service with the 42nd Rainbow Infantry Division of the United States Army. He served in central Europe, and his division was engaged in the liberation of Dachau Concentration camp, near Munich, Germany. Charles then made his career as a dairyman, farmer and rancher in the Texas Panhandle. He served on the Board of Directors for the 1st National Bank of Canyon and was a local real estate investor. He served his spiritual communities as Deacon, Elder, Board Member and Steering Committee servant, as well as a churchschool teacher at the First Christian Church in Canyon and Paramount Terrace Christian Church in Amarillo. His last years were spent in faithful service to the Lord Jesus Christ at the First Baptist Church in Canyon. Honorary Pallbearers will be Waymond Brown, Earl Reynolds, Louis Hinders, Jack Swatzell, Doug Jones, Pat Hickman, and Jim Christopher. Survivors include his wife, Nora E. Gerald, of the home; three daughters, Janet L. Price, of Lubbock, Cynthia A. Oakley, of Dallas, and Cathy A. Whisenhunt, of Denver, CO; two sons, Chris Gerald, of Canyon, and Dan Gerald, of Phoenix, AZ; brother, Dr. Thomas S. Gerald, of Amarillo; ten grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Cal Farley"s Boys Ranch, PO Box 1890, Amarillo, Texas 79174, or Christian Children"s Fund, 2821 Emerywood Pkwy., Richmond, VA 23294.
