Cecil Charles, 87, of Amarillo, passed away on Thursday, June 3, 2021. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Canyon with Father Scott Raef as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Dreamland Cemetery. A vigil will be held on Friday, June 4, 2021 at 6:00 P.M. at Brooks Chapel in Canyon.
Cecil was born on March 15, 1934 in Caney, Kansas to Octave Peirre and Zelia (LeRoy) Charles. He graduated from Caney High School in 1952. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Printing from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas where he was a member of the Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, working with Anti-Aircraft Artillery.
Cecil married Jan Richards in Seymour on July 6, 1963 and managed the W.T. printshop from 1963 to 1996. He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church and Kiwanis Club in Canyon. He was also a member of the Canyon Volunteer Fire Department for many years. Cecil was a skilled craftsman and loved working with his hands. He enjoyed fishing and playing golf and after serving in the Army, he continued to fly small engine airplanes. He will be lovingly remembered as a devoted family man.
Cecil is preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond, Jules, Carl, Earl Edmond, and Jean Charles and his sister, Earline Outland. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Jan Charles; his daughter, Stephanie Ortega and husband, Henry; grandchildren, Cecily Morris and husband, Clayton and Luke Ortega; great grandchildren, Jameson and Caelan Morris; and special friends, Mathew and Anita Devassy.
