Obituary for CARL BERNARD HARTMAN

Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at St. Mary"s Catholic Church in Umbarger, Texas with Rev. George Kalampatt, officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary"s Catholic Cemetery, Umbarger, Texas Carl was born on June 2, 1926 to Carl Antone and Elizabeth Irlbeck Hartman in Umbarger, Texas. He was a lifetime resident of the Umbarger community and was a member of St. Mary"s parish, Umbarger. He married Lorene Wilhelm Hartman in Nazareth on February 19, 1952. He served in the Army during World War II and was at Pearl Harbor when the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. He was then stationed in Japan for a year. He was a life-long member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2808. He was on the board of directors on the Umbarger Co-op Elevator and served as president for many years. He was a member of the Randall County ASC board of directors, the High Plains Water District board, and the Randall County Appraisal Review Board. He served on the Randall County Appraisal District Board of Directors from 1983 to 1997. He has been a farmer/rancher all his life and has been involved in church and local activities over the years. Working with cattle was his greatest passion in life, and he was a well known figure at some of the local cattle auctions. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, Laura Miller Hartman, a son, Duane Alan, in 1981, and a brother, Elmer, in 1992. The family would like to send a special thank you to the Ussary Roan Texas Veteran Nursing Home, BSA Hospice, Olivia"s Angels, and True Blessings. Survivors include his wife, Lorene Hartman; children, Dennis Hartman, Marvin Hartman and wife, Lesann, of Umbarger, Juanita Malecha and husband, Gaylord, of Amarillo, Floyd Hartman and wife, Terrie, of Canyon, and Galen Hartman, of Houston; granchildren, James Hartman and wife, Jodi, of Amarillo, Jessica and Aaron Tudyk, of Canyon, Jonathan Hartman, of Amarillo, Chelsea Ana-Marie Hartman and Megan Elizabeth Hartman, of Canyon, Karlynn Anita Hartman and Olivia Renee Hartman, of Umbarger; 3 great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Lexington Hartman, and Renan Tudyk, all of Canyon; two brothers, Albert Hartman and wife, Rita, of Silverton, and Bernard Hartman, and wife, Barbara, of Canyon; and a sister-in-law, Alta Hartman, of Happy.
