Obituary for C. HUBERT NEWMAN

Services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, May 10 at the First Baptist Church with Dr. David L. Lowrie, Jr., pastor, officiating. Interment will be at Dreamland Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 9 from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. at Brooks Chapel. C. Hubert Newman was born June 21, 1924 in Lynn County, Texas to John Henry and Carrie Belle Perry Newman. He graduated from high school in New Home, Texas and attended Texas Tech for two years. Hubert married Martha Davidson on July 1, 1944. She preceded him in death on December 7, 2009. In 1944, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for two years during WWII. Hubert moved to this community in 1984 and was a power dispatcher for Southwestern Public Service for 35 years. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Lillie and Mary Lou; and three brothers, Henry, Billie, and Homer. Survivors include three sons, Gary Newman and wife, Debbie, of Amarillo, John Newman and wife, Kim, of Charleston, WV, Tom Newman, of Conway, SC; three granddaughters, Lisa Newman, of New York City, Mary House and husband, Shawn of College Station, TX, Jennifer Newman, of Amarillo; two grandsons, Daniel Newman and wife, Emily, of Ashland, TN, Scott Newman and wife, Anna, of the U.S. Marine Corp; great grandson, Thomas House; and a brother, Melvin Newman and wife, Edna, of Lubbock.
