Services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, June 13 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Olsen, pastor, and Bud Townsend, officiating. Burial will follow at Dreamland Cemetery. Buddy was born March 4, 1924 to G.E. and Ethel Barker Price in Runnels County, Texas. Several times he tried to enter the military but because of a horseback injury, almost severing his left leg, he was not accepted. He joined the Civil Service and was stationed in Hawaii for several years until the war ended. He came back to the states and landed in Canyon Texas in 1945.He met Joe Currie, who offered him a job. Joe thought he was getting an employee, but he eventually got a son-in-law. He married Norma "Jo" Currie, his loving & supportive wife, in Canyon on February 14, 1948. Before Joe Currie's death, he deeded the Currie Drilling Company (C.D.C.) to Golden Currie, Buddy Price, and Jo Price. Ownership is now in the hands of the third generation: Bruce and Neil Currie. Several fourth and fifth generation children have also worked there. Buddy retired from C.D.C. in 1980 but continued to love the company. In earlier years, he sang and yodeled. He did a beautiful "Cattle Call". By learning to play the harmonica at an early age, he was popular at family gatherings, Cowboy Church, and other meetings. He loved gospel and (mid-century) country & western music. He and his wife, Jo, were a prize winning waltz and two-step dance couple. He was a faithful servant to his Lord and Savior. He studied and knew the Bible inside and out. He was a pillar in the community. Buddy loved everyone and everyone loved him. He was asked at numerous community gatherings to lead the group in prayer. Buddy once made a Texas Star with lights and sent one to George W. Bush with numerous signatures of support from community members. He received a personal thank-you letter from Mr. Bush. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon. He was also a member of the Gideons, Dreamland Cemetery Board, Lay Witness Mission, Randall County Jail Ministry, Prison Ministry, Sunday School Teacher, and Cowboy Church. Buddy was the recipient of the Randall County Sheriff's Office Outstanding Achievement Award and the Canyon Chamber of Commerce Volunteer of the Year Award. Buddy loved his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was a man of great faith, a gentle spirit, a hard worker, and a person who could fix or build almost anything. His most important calling was telling everyone about the Lord. He frequently said: "I am trying to populate Heaven."
