CANYON, Texas — Brent Michael Zirbes, age 69, Canyon, Texas passed away January 17, 2019 at his home due to a sudden health issue.   Brent was born in Watertown, SD on November 9, 1949 to Clarence (also known as  “Johnny” & ”CM”) Marcus Zirbes and Shirley Anne (Smith) Zirbes.   Brent graduated from Castlewood High School, SD in 1968.  He received a Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture from South Dakota State University in 1972.  He married Patricia “Patty” Anne Sherman on May 20, 1972 in Castlewood, SD. Shortly thereafter the couple moved to Half Moon Bay, CA where his two daughters, Brandy and Andrea were born. He worked for a variety of greenhouses in California and New Mexico, eventually settling his family in Canyon, Texas in 1981.  He later oversaw a greenhouse for Bechtel in Saudi Arabia for the construction project of the capital’s airport.  He also had an assignment in Kuwait for one of the royal family members.  After completing his overseas jobs, he returned to Canyon where he started his own successful tree and lawn care business until his retirement. He enjoyed science fiction movies/books, Sunday night dinners with the family, and time spent with his grandson, Brady.  In his younger years, he loved to hunt and fish in South Dakota. Survivors include his daughter Brandy; daughter Andrea and son-in-law Dan Sholder and their son Brady; his brother Tim Zirbes, San Mateo, CA; sister Jill (Zirbes) Cuperus and husband Gerrit, Stillwater, OK, and her children Scott & Mike Boggs; his in-laws Robert & Mary Ann Sherman, Canyon, TX, sister-in-law Marci Fogel & husband Todd, Evergreen, CO; brother-in-law Dominic Sherman, Washougal, WA; plus numerous other relatives. Preceding Brent in death were his wife Patty Zirbes after a hard fought battle with cancer in 2018; his father Clarence “Johnny” Zirbes in 2011; his mother Shirley Zirbes in 2018;  plus many other relatives.
