Bonnie Jean Tatum was born on April 28, 1931 in Wellington, Kansas to Harvey and Katie Seal Odom. After her mother’s death, she was raised by an aunt and uncle, Charlie and Cornie Parker. She graduated from Coleman High School and attended Stamps School of Music in Ft. Worth. She married Walker Tatum in Santa Anna on May 2, 1948. He preceded her in death in 1985. Bonnie worked for many years as the city secretary in Winters. She moved to Canyon in 1985 and worked as the Physical Education aide for CISD and later as the library aide at Canyon Intermediate School. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she was active in the Abigail Sunday School Class and was also a member of Canyon Retired Teacher’s Association. She played the piano for the Canyonettes and taught piano as well. Bonnie loved her grandchildren, and living next door, she kept them often. She was an avid Canyon Lady Eagle fan and was lovingly known as ‘Bumbie’ to all. Bonnie was also preceded in death by one sister and one brother. Survivors include her daughter, Babs Lombard and husband, Joe, of Canyon; her granddaughter, Lindy Slagle and husband, Scott, of Ft. Worth; her grandson, Tate Lombard and wife, Paige, of San Angelo; her great-grandson, Owen Lewis Slagle; a brother, Raymond Odom and wife, Dolly, of Sun City, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be to the First Baptist Church, 1717 4th Avenue, Canyon, TX 79015 or to the Dr. Ted Guffy Scholarship Fund, WT Foundation, WTAMU Box 60766, Canyon, TX 79016.
