Obituary for Bobby Dale 'Bob' Burgoon

Bobby Dale “Bob” Burgoon, age 84, passed away on October 15, 2021 in Canyon, Texas.

A private family interment service will be held in Dreamland Cemetery in Canyon, Texas on October 23, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. A celebration of life service will be held at University Church of Christ in Canyon on October 23, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on October 22, 2021 at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel in Canyon.

Bob was born at home on October 18, 1936 in Denton, Texas, to Wayne and Mildred (Baty) Burgoon. He contracted polio at age 11 months, the result of which left him walking with a defining limp for the rest of his life, earning him such nicknames as “Hopalong” and “Crazy Legs”. He graduated from Denton High School in 1954, from North Texas State University with a BS in Music and English in 1962, and a M.Ed. in School Administration in 1965.

Bob and Connie Mae Dosier were united in marriage on June 12, 1959, in Grapevine, Texas, and became career educators over a period of thirty-five years in New Mexico and Texas respectively. They served in Tucumcari and Logan, New Mexico, Miami, Santa Fe, and Gruver, Texas.

Bob was a member of University Church of Christ in Canyon, Texas where he served as an elder for nine years. He also served as an elder at Midway Church of Christ in Hitchcock, Texas, and Gruver Church of Christ in Gruver, Texas. He served as a Bible class teacher and song leader in numerous churches over the years.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Mildred Burgoon of Sanger, Texas, and by his brother, Jim Burgoon of Greenwood, Mississippi, and infant sister, Tandy Lou Burgoon.

He is survived by his wife Connie of the home and four children, Jim Bob and wife Betty of Lubbock, Bill and wife Susan of Canyon, Amy and husband John of Ruidoso, New Mexico, and Andrew and wife Courtney of Canyon. He is also survived by one brother, Ben and wife Teri of Sanger, Texas. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Reece Burgoon and wife Jenni, Riley Burgoon and wife Jamie, Jared Burgoon, Kayla and husband Terrell Cole, Raina Duncan, Joshua Duncan, and Kyler, Kylie, and Kelton Burgoon, and three great grandchildren Raylan and Brennan Burgoon and Ellie Kate Cole. Other survivors are brother-in-law and sister-in-law David and Paula Tarbet of Dallas, Texas, and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
