Bob Thompson, 81, of Hartley, passed away on Saturday, February 19, 2022.
Services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, February 21, 2022 at Hartley Christian Fellowship with Bobby Medford, officiating. Burial will be at the Hartley Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 20, 2022 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Hartley Christian Fellowship. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon.
Bob was born March 15, 1940 in Dalhart, Texas to Robert and Clara Wiseman Thompson. He graduated from Hartley High School and then moved to Lubbock to further his education at Texas Tech University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in accounting.
He married Barbara Dove in Dalhart on January 24, 1960. Bob and Barbara moved to Amarillo in 1964 and he began his accounting career. In 1981, they moved back to Hartley to help Bob’s brother operate his family business, where he worked for nearly 20 years. Then he worked with Frontier Fuel and Dyke Rogers for more than 20 years and never officially retired.
Bob was an elder at Hartley Christian Fellowship. He was extremely active in and dedicated to every aspect of the Hartley community and especially enjoyed serving with his wife, Barbara, on the Hartley Volunteer Fire Department and EMS. While living in Amarillo he was an active member of Lions Club and Troop 80.
Bob enjoyed woodworking in his spare time and loved to go fly fishing whenever he could get away. He was a well-known storyteller. His stories were always unique, humorous, and mostly true. He was a protective and dedicated husband and very committed to his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Clara Thompson, brother, Allen Thompson, twin grandsons, Randell and Blake, and a great grandson, Zayde Waddell.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Barbara Thompson; children, Pam Bainum (Jackie), Jeff Thompson, Acie Chamberlain, and Mike Thompson (Farrah); grandchildren, Jeremy Waddell (Beth), Randell Waddell (Shawn Caskey), Sharlea Warner (Chris), Whitney Thompson-Byars, Brooks Thompson (Ashley), and Zane, Ryder, and Mattie Thompson; great grandchildren, Keagan and Kayde Waddell, Autumn and Alex Warner, Bryanna Byars and Xavier Vasquez, and Benson, Brody, and Banks Thompson; brothers, Bruce Thompson and Sam Thompson; and a sister-in-law, Diane Thompson.
