Obituary for BILLY E. WEST

Services will be at 2:00 P.M. Monday, August 22, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Canyon, Texas, with Rev. Gene Jones and Rev. Patrick Six officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery. Billy E. (Bill) West was born on October 8, 1929 in Reydon, Oklahoma, to Frank and Mandy Clines West. He attended schools in Whittier, California, and Reydon Oklahoma, graduating in 1947. Bill married Loudene Taylor on June 3, 1950. He worked 42 years for the AT&SF Railroad, retiring in January 1992, in Canyon, Texas. During his career they lived in nearly every town on the Santa Fe line in the panhandle of Texas and Oklahoma, settling in Canyon in 1963. He was a charter member of the West Texas Good Sams RV chapter, a member of the First Baptist Church in Canyon, and held several offices in the Canyon Senior Citizens. He loved fishing and gardening and kept all those who knew him supplied with fresh squash, tomatoes and pecans. The family wishes to extend appreciation to Dr. Revell, Gerald Buchanan RN and the entire Hospice Care of the Southwest staff, and also the wonderful staff of the Canyon Healthcare for their love and support. Thanks also for the support from dear friends in Canyon and adopted family of the Palo Duro Village Retirement Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, one brother and two sisters. He is survived by his wife; daughters, Terry Wester and husband, Ric, of Amarillo, Kelley Gardner and Laurent Chaouat of Georgetown; son, Bill and wife, Judy of Canyon; six grandchildren, Tessa Schueler and husband, Monty of Friona, Matthew West and wife, Heather, of Canyon, Benji Wester and wife, Amy of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Chris Gardner and wife, Kate of Fairfax, Virginia, Whitney Wester of Houston, and Kori Gardner of Georgetown; five great-grandchildren, Tristan, Quay and Mason Schueler of Friona, Afton West of Canyon and Lily Wester of Ann Arbor, Michigan; brother, Murl and wife, Mae of Silverton, Oregon; and nephews, Frank of Albany, Oregon, Phillip Morgan of Reno, Nevada and Arnold Rice of Sweetwater, Oklahoma.
