Obituary for Billy Bob Townsend

Billy Bob Townsend, 92, of Canyon, passed away on Tuesday, March 20, 2018. Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, March 23, 2018 at the First Assembly of God Church in Canyon with Jerad Middaugh, pastor of Southlawn Assembly of God Church, and Jerald Middaugh, pastor of First Assembly of God Church, officiating.  Burial will follow in Dreamland Cemetery.  Military honors provided by Volleys for Veterans. Bill was born on January 23, 1926 in Nimrod, Texas to Ira Davis and Irene Gardner Townsend.  He married Imogene Dudley in Clovis, NM on June 3, 1950 and they moved to Canyon in 1960.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the South Pacific, Marshall Islands during WWII as coxswain (1C). He was a carpenter by trade and became a security guard at Pantex for eleven years. He was a member of VFW, United Guard Union of America, Sons of the American Revolution, and the National Rifle Association.  He was also a member of Southlawn Assembly of God and First Assembly of God Churches.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Imogene, on November 11, 2012, and a brother, Ira Edgar Townsend.  Bill enjoyed collecting arrowheads, woodworking, and loved native American artifacts. Survivors include four children, Janice Middaugh and husband Jerald, of Canyon, Kathy Yancey and husband Richard, of Hawley, David Townsend and wife Debbie, of Amarillo, and Tami Hathcock and husband Danny, of Amarillo; a sister, Dortha Smith of San Angelo; sister-in-law, Opal Pearson of Canyon; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, all of whom he thought were beautiful. The family suggests memorials be to First Assembly of God Church, 2318 13th Avenue, Canyon, TX 79015.
