Obituary for Bill Crenshaw

Billy Glen Crenshaw (Bill & PaPa), 80, of Happy, went to be with the Lord on Friday evening January 13, 2023 with family surrounding him either in person or on Facetime. It was a glorious time.

Memorial services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, January 16, 2023 at Crossroads Country Church,in Amarillo with Bob Miller, pastor, and Ken Ansell, officiating.

He was born August 24, 1942 in Knox City, Texas to Freddie (Snow) and Agnes Crenshaw. He was the fourth of six siblings and the first to be born in a hospital. They lived on the League Ranch just north of Rhineland, Texas on the north side of the Brazos River. They also lived on ranches in the Benjamin, Texas area and then in Benjamin for awhile before moving to Matador. At the age of 13, Bill did all kinds of ranch work and helped Snow until his high school graduation. He spent his time riding horses through the mesquites, killing rattlesnakes and was real excited about getting an indoor bathroom.

Bill loved and played all sports, but baseball was his favorite. He graduated with a class of 17 students and then continued his education at South Plains College in Levelland, where he played baseball and excelled in math and accounting. He was part of the third class to graduate from South Plains College.

Bill met Karen Bales while in college. They began dating in March and fell in love and were married on Bill’s 20th birthday, August 24, 1962.

Bill got a bookkeeping job in Lubbock and then they moved to Amarillo in 1964, and onto Clovis, New Mexico before welcoming their first born, Glen, in 1965, and then onto Odessa, where they welcomed, Paula Dee, in 1967.

Karen and Bill decided he needed to do what he really loved, which was business. So, they moved to Goodwell, Oklahoma and Bill started back to college and got his degree in 1970.

He had been working parttime for Swift and Company in Guymon. Karen also worked in Guymon, so he began his career with Swift 17 years before closing ones in Guymon, Clovis, and Hereford.

While at Swift in Goodwell, they welcomed, Lynne, to the family in 1973.

Bill and Karen dedicated their lives to serving the Lord. Bill became a Deacon in 1972. In 1977, they moved to Clovis, and he was blessed to go on a 10-day mission trip to Guatemala. The Lord used Bill in His ministry by teaching all ages, witnessing to whoever and as a Gideon sharing Bibles.

Another love of Bill’s was the Cowboy Poets. He was a member since 1991 and served as President for several terms. It was a wonderful time sharing poetry and stories at nursing homes, schools, churches, and special functions. He wrote over 100 poems and published 3 poetry books.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Fred Crenshaw and Bud Crenshaw; and a nephew, Guy Crenshaw and his wife, Debbie.
