Obituary for BETTY JANE McMANIGAL RAHLFS

Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, April 26, 2010 at First Baptist Church in Happy with Jerry Bell, chaplain of Park Central, officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 25, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Happy's Memorial Chapel. Viewing will be on Saturday and Sunday in Happy. Betty Jane McManigal was born on May 13, 1922 to M. B. and Maggie Leucks McManigal, in Randall County, the youngest of eleven children. She graduated from Happy High School and West Texas State University. She married O. H. Rahlfs on February 20, 1943. Betty was a homemaker and an elementary school teacher in Lubbock, Tulia, and Happy for several years. She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Happy. She was preceded in death by her husband, O. H. Rahlfs, in 2001, a son, Dan Rahlfs, in 2007, four brothers, Hobart McManigal, Irvin McManigal, Jack McManigal, and Morlan McManigal, and five sisters, Merle White, Mildred Shuman, Eva Criswell, Margaret McCutchan, and Joie Dale Brown. Survivors include a daughter, Becky Rahlfs Grantham of Amarillo; a son, Andy Rahlfs of Canyon; a daughter-in-law, Penny Rahlfs of Amarillo; three grandchildren, Dana Dutson and husband, Mike of San Antonio, Robin Patterson and husband, Craig of Canyon, Jason Rahlfs and wife, Melinda of Amarillo; eight great grandchildren, Dillon, Reagan, and Riley Dutson of San Antonio, Reese, Ryan, Rhett, and Reed Patterson of Canyon, and Ava Rahlfs of Amarillo; one sister, Kathleen Thornton of Lockney; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be to the Dan Rahlfs Memorial Scholarship c/o Opportunity Plan Inc., PO Box 1035, Canyon, Texas 79015, or a favorite charity.
