Obituary for Betty Ann "Simon" Dietz

Betty Ann Simon Dietz was born on December 26, 1926 in Randall County, Texas, to Anton Henry and Anna Eva Simon. She graduated from Canyon High School in 1944. Betty married John Henry Dietz on August 8, 1944 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Umbarger, TX. Betty was a photography specialist for several years at Palo Duro Studios in Amarillo, TX. She was also a retail salesperson for Thompson's Gifts of Canyon, TX. Betty was a longtime parishioner of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Canyon where she served in several ministries. After moving to Portland, TX in 2013, she was a parishioner at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Betty and her husband, John, were chosen Texan Legend by the Texas Parks and Recreation Department for their volunteer work in Palo Duro Canyon State Park. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John, two sisters and two daughters, Janet Dietz and Charlotte Knight. She is survived by her son, John and wife, Anne, of Portland, TX; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM on Monday, July 1, 2019 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at Our Lady of
Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Portland. Graveside services to be conducted on Tuesday, July 9th, at 10:00 A.M. in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Amarillo. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Partners in Palo Duro State Park, 11450 Park Road 5, Canyon, TX 79015 and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101.
